The term “portrait of a young man” does not refer to a single specific work by Antonello da Messina, but to several portraits of young men, characterised by a three-quarter view and an intense gaze fixed on the viewer.
The main feature of this painting is the intense gaze of the sitter, and the oil-on-panel technique inspired by Flemish models.
