The artwork

Portrait of a Man is an oil painting on panel by Antonello da Messina, dated around 1475-1476 and kept in the National Gallery in London.

The work portrays an unknown man of upper-middle social rank, judging by his clothing. His leather jerkin reveals a glimpse of white shirt, while on his head he wears a red cloth cap.
