The work

Fresco from the Villa of the Mysteries, Based on similar paintings that decorated the Temple of Dionysus in Pergamon, Asia Minor, the frescoes depict the sacred marriage of the god to the mortal Ariadne. A young satyr plays the flute while his companion suckles a goat. The scene has been interpreted as the goddess Fenta Fauna suckling the goat. Second half of the 1st century BC Pompeii.
