The fresco of Narcissus, discovered in 2019 in Regio V of Pompeii, depicts the mythological youth contemplating his reflection in a pool of water, according to classical iconography. This painting, located in the atrium of the same domus that houses the fresco of Leda and the Swan, is characterized by vivid colors and refined details, such as floral ornaments, griffins with cornucopias, flying cupids and scenes of animal fights. The luxurious decoration of the room, probably dating back to the last years of the colony, testifies to the diffusion of Greek myths in Roman culture and the appreciation for beauty and vanity.
