Roman fresco depicting the meeting between Pelias and Jason, a scene from Greek mythology. Pelias, King of Iolcus, is shown standing on the steps of a temple, in the act of recognising Jason by his missing sandal, a sign that would fulfil a prophecy according to which he would be overthrown by a man with only one sandal. The work, characterised by refined details and a balanced composition, comes from the House of Jason in Pompeii (AD 20-25) and is now kept at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, a testament to the Roman taste for mythological and decorative themes.
