Original and luminous depiction of the Venice Pier, with a view from St. Mark's Basin, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the basin with all the boats, some anchored on the shore, while others are navigating the Grand Canal. The painting depicts the Doge's Palace, the bell tower of St. Mark's, and the other buildings in the square. The sky is clear, with a few light pink clouds on the horizon. The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1747. Other variations of this work exist.
