In the foreground there is the Doge's Palace, seen from the side, overlooking the square with scenes of daily life, and in the background there is the column of St. Mark. Further in the background there's the island of San Giorgio with its beautiful church. The clear sky, a deep blue, lends a special light to the entire painting.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated, and is part of a private collection. Other variations of this work by Canaletto exist.
