A marvellous, clear view of Venice in 1740, featuring the bell tower of St Mark's with the basilica to one side, by Bernardo Bellotto. The square is crowded with visitors and townspeople. The angle chosen by Bellotto serves to emphasise the imposing height of the bell tower. The basilica, too, although to one side, is depicted in great detail, as are the other palazzi surrounding the square. The day is clear, and Venice is very lively.
