An original and unusual 18th-century view of Piazza Navona in Rome flooded with water, painted by Bernardo Bellotto. On the right-hand side is the great church, with the palaces depicted beside it. In the centre of the square is the obelisk, with water all around, and a detail of horses pulling carriages that race through the water left by a heavy downpour. The sky is serene, a light blue shading into pink, with a few clouds, and the city is trying to resume its everyday life after the heavy rainfall. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated.
