The artwork
Original and unusual eighteenth-century view of Piazza Navona in Rome, flooded by water, painted by Bernardo Bellotto. On the right there is the large church, flanked by buildings. In the center of the square there is the obelisk, surrounded by water, with a detail of horses pulling carriages racing across the water formed after a heavy downpour. The sky is clear, light blue tinged with pink, with a few clouds, and the city is trying to resume its daily life after the heavy rainfall. The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated.
