The artwork
A luminous and rare historical view of Piazza Navona, painted by Gaspare Vanvitelli. The obelisk occupies the center of the scene, while a fountain is depicted on the lower left. Shops, recognizable by their sunshade curtains, are depicted on the sides. The square is bustling with travelers, pilgrims, and residents. The buildings on the left are illuminated by the sun, while the blue sky, with a few clouds on the horizon, dominates the scene.
This painting is also part of the extensive production Vanvitelli created during his stays in Rome. The painting is dated 1699.
