Sebastian Münster's map of ancient Parma is a captivating bird's-eye view taken from the German edition of the famous Cosmographia, one of the most influential geographical works of the 16th century. This decorative image depicts the fortified city of Parma, the surrounding towns, the river, and a lively military scene with knights, soldiers, and an ongoing artillery battle, offering a fascinating historical and iconographic insight.

Münster's Cosmographia, first published in 1544, was the first description of the world in German and profoundly influenced cartographers like Mercator and Ortelius. The volume is distinguished by its 471 woodcuts and 26 maps that integrate geographical, historical, and anthropological knowledge, the result of research, travels, and ancient and modern sources. This map of Parma is a precious piece that celebrates Renaissance cartographic art and the city's history.
