A luminous and very rare panoramic view of the city of Messina painted by Gaspare Vanvitelli, with a perspective from the hinterland towards the sea. On the right of the painting is a fortress, with travellers climbing the road. Vanvitelli has brightly lit the central inland part of the painting. A clear sky rises above the city.
This painting is part of the output Vanvitelli produced during his stays in Sicily and Calabria. The painting is in a private collection.
