This is a reproduction of a rare and valuable engraved map from the "Lafreri School," depicting Rome and Lazio, based on Eufrosino della Volpaia's celebrated six-sheet map of the region.

This map, published separately, has been attributed to Vincenzo Luchini and is the first in a series inspired by Eufrosino della Volpaia's now-unobtainable work.

It is one of the earliest printed maps of Lazio, the region surrounding Rome. The map is oriented with east to the left and has the "Eternal City" at its center, depicted surrounded by its ancient crenellated walls. To the lower right, one can see the ruins of the Aqua Claudia and Aqua Marcia aqueducts, located southeast of the city. The hilly countryside is rich with hills, towns, roads, forests, and lakes, while the Tyrrhenian Sea is animated by a sea monster and a sailing ship.

Feel history under your fingertips

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic deckled edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.

It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.
