Original and luminous eighteenth-century view of Walton Bridge, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. The bridge is prominent on the right side with its second large arch, flanked by smaller ones connecting the opposite bank of the Thames. There are some boats in the river, while on the bank to the right of the painting are scenes of everyday life. The large tree in the center is particularly striking, leaning in the wind. The sky features light clouds on the horizon, but the day remains clear.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1755. Canaletto painted other variations of this painting.
