An original and luminous 18th-century engraving of Walton Bridge, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto, in ink on paper. Prominent on the right is the bridge with its first great arch, followed by smaller ones linking it to the opposite bank of the Thames. On the river are a few boats, while on the right bank of the picture are scenes of daily life. In the centre is the great tree, bent by the blowing wind. The sky shows light clouds on the horizon, but the day remains fine.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1755. Canaletto painted other versions of this picture.
