The artwork
A bright and interesting perspective view of the old Dresden market, painted by Bernardo Bellotto in 1750. The large square, populated by citizens and some stalls where trading takes place, stands out. Some carriages are depicted in the center of the square. All around there are Dresden's historic buildings. The sky is clear and sunny, with a few clouds, ideal for the market.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1750. It is one of 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during a stay there. The painting is exhibited at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. Another variant of this work exists.
