A luminous and interesting perspective view, dated 1750, of the Old Market in Dresden, by Bernardo Bellotto. Prominent is the very large square, populated by citizens and a few stalls where bargaining is under way. Some carriages are shown in the centre of the square. All around are the historic buildings of Dresden. The sky is clear and limpid but with a few clouds, ideal for the market.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1750. It is one of the 14 views of the city of Dresden that Bellotto painted during one of his stays. The painting is on display at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. Another variant of this work exists.
