Historical double-hemisphere world map created by Henricus Hondius II in 1630. This is a hand-colored engraving.
The map depicts the world as it was known in the first half of the seventeenth century. Both meridians and parallels are present.
Outside the hemispheres, allegories from mythology and the classical world are depicted. While on the four sides, there are portraits of illustrious figures.
Henricus Hondius, or Hendrik Hondius the Younger, was a Dutch engraver, cartographer, and publisher.
Son of the famous cartographer Jodocus Hondt, who had his own cartography business in Amsterdam, he initially collaborated with the family business but opened his own company in his hometown in 1621. In 1641, he published the Mercator - Hondius Atlas.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.
It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic frayed edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.
It is still made today using ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.
