The artwork
Numbers and Constellations is a work by Joan Miró made in 1941, belonging to the celebrated cycle of the Constellations, one of the highest and most poetic moments of his output. In this period, marked by exile and the Second World War, Miró developed an intimate and universal language, capable of transforming historical anguish into cosmic vision.
The surface is enlivened by a dense web of signs, numbers, stars, dots and fine lines, interweaving like a mysterious script suspended in space. The numbers have no mathematical function, but a symbolic one: they become rhythmic elements, part of a visual alphabet that converses with the constellations and with the idea of infinity. The colours, luminous yet balanced, create a lyrical, musical atmosphere.
The work suggests a deep connection between man, universe and language, transforming painting into a poetic map of the cosmos, where every sign is charged with energy and meaning.
