This splendid 1648 view of the city of Nuremberg (historically also "Nuwenburg") on the lake was created using the etching technique by the renowned Swiss engraver and publisher Matthaeus Merian the Elder (1583-1650).

This work is part of the monumental 16-volume collection Topographia Germaniae, created in collaboration with Martin Zeiller (1589-1661), a German geographer and scholar. This series, published between 1642 and 1654, is one of the most complete modern representations of German-speaking regions and surrounding territories. It includes Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Alsace, and parts of neighboring countries. Each volume focuses on a specific region or set of regions, with descriptive text by Zeiller and engravings by Merian and his workshop.

Topographia has influenced cartography and urban studies for centuries and remains a valuable resource for historians and art collectors. The series exemplifies the era's fascination with cataloging and visually representing the world.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic deckled edges that testify to its handcrafted production.

It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
