The artwork
“Still Life” by Kazimir Malevich is one of the key works of his cubo-futurist period (around 1912–1913), a phase in which the artist explores the breaking down of everyday objects through dynamic geometric forms. The theme of the still life, traditionally linked to realistic observation, is reinterpreted in a revolutionary language: bottles, fruit, utensils and surfaces are transformed into fractured volumes, interlocked in a visual rhythm recalling both Cubism and Futurism.
Malevich uses bold colours and sharp contrasts to emphasise the energy of modernity, suggesting a world in motion even when the subject is static. This work clearly reveals his determination to move beyond objective representation and to lead the viewer towards a more conceptual perception of reality. Still Life represents a fundamental step in the evolution that would lead Malevich to Suprematism, where form would definitively lose every reference to the material world.
