The artwork
Original and rare colored engraving of 18th-century London with a monument erected in memory of a fire, created by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the monument, a column or capital placed in the center of the busy square with stalls. To the left of the column there are London buildings, side by side. The sky is clear but with a few looming clouds.
The painting is undated. Another variant of this work by Canaletto exists. The engraving is on display at the London Metropolitan Archives, London.
