A luminous and original view of the market square in Pirna, by Bernardo Bellotto. Elegant palazzi overlook the square, busy with people looking for a bargain. The church with its tall bell tower is painted further back, but in fine detail. The sky is clear with a few scattered clouds.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is dated 1764. Five other versions of this work exist.
