This humorous map of the "muddy Amazon" is an illustration conceived and drawn by Rudyard Kipling for the story "The Beginning of the Armadilloes" in the collection Just So Stories, originally published in 1902 and later reissued in subsequent editions such as the 1951 London edition. It parodies ancient maps of discovery voyages, mixing fantastic geography with burlesque notes on the dangers of the jungle, indigenous populations, and the exploits of explorers marked in red. The calligraphic writing, cartouches, and small vignettes create a "narrative atlas" that introduces young readers to the imaginary world of the story, more as a literary game than a real cartographic tool.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on precious Amalfi paper.
It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, but soft to the touch, with characteristic frayed edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.
It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
