Historical map of Paris at the time of the French Revolution's outbreak, created by Alexander Keith Johnston. This is a hand-colored engraving. The map was published by William Blackwood and Sons, Edinburgh and London, in 1848.
The map illustrates Paris divided by the Seine, and organized into districts according to the urban plan then in force. Particular palaces or buildings are highlighted in red. In the upper left there is a city plan with a different scale.
Alexander Keith Johnston was a Scottish geographer and cartographer.
Johnston combined cartography with a meticulous and academic approach to map production, gaining a reputation for his breadth and accuracy.
