Map of the city of Palma from the late 16th century created by Joris Hoefnagel. It is a coloured engraving.
The map shows the city of Palma and its urban layout at the end of the 16th century. One can see the fortified walls around the whole perimeter, in the shape of a nine-pointed star (bastions). Within the walls the city develops with a regular, concentric street pattern. It is a hypothetical bird’s-eye view of Palma. At the bottom of the map, in the two corners, are two inscriptions, while in the upper corners are banners of Palma.
Georg Hoefnagel or Hufnagel was a Flemish painter, cartographer and illustrator.
