Map of the city of Leipzig from the late sixteenth century created by Joris Hoefnagel around 1572. It is a colored engraving.
The map shows the city of Leipzig as it was urbanistically organized in the late sixteenth century. One can observe the fortification of the walls around the entire perimeter, with the palaces, churches, and neighborhoods of Leipzig inside. At the top of the map, the coats of arms of Leipzig are depicted. Outside the city walls are the farmers' dwellings and cultivated lands. In the lower right corner, there is a legend.
Georg Hoefnagel or Hufnagel was a Flemish painter, cartographer, and illustrator.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.
It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic deckled edges that attest to its artisanal production.
It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
