Guillaume Delisle's map, created in the early 18th century, depicts southern Italy with Corsica and Sardinia according to ancient geography, collectively identified as Magna Graecia. Developed based on the scientific observations of the Académie Royale des Sciences, it reflects Delisle's critical approach, as one of the leading reformers of French cartography, meticulous in correcting traditional errors and excising imaginary lands. The Latin place names and territorial divisions recall the late Republican and Augustan Roman arrangements, offering an erudite and antiquarian interpretation of Southern Italy as a historically Hellenized space, in line with 18th-century interest in classical geography.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on precious Amalfi paper.

It is a paper composed exclusively of cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic deckled edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.
