The map shows all the possessions of the British Empire coloured in pink. Highlighted is the control of India, Australia and North America at the beginning of the 19th century. Around the map are depicted the animal species found in the controlled territories, while in the lower centre of the map is the coat of arms of the British Empire.
The map is on display at the National Maritime Museum, London, UK.
George Philip (1800–1882) was a Scottish cartographer, map publisher and founder of the publishing house George Philip & Son Ltd.
