The 1833 map depicts the geographical distribution of the main indigenous tribes in the United States in the early 19th century, before the full implementation of forced westward removal policies. Published in the third volume of Thomas L. McKenney and James Hall’s "The Indian Tribes of North America", which came out in several volumes between 1836 and 1844 and was reissued by the publisher John Grant in the 20th century, it accompanies a large illustrated work dedicated to the biographies and portraits of native chiefs. The lithograph, attributed to George Catlin, graphically translates a Euro-American view of "Indian nations", classifying them by area and family, and simultaneously testifies to the attempt to document cultures perceived as disappearing and the colonial context that was reshaping their territories.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.
It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, but soft to the touch, with characteristic frayed edges that attest to its artisanal production.
It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
