This map, taken from Samuel Butler's historical atlas published in London around 1829, depicts ancient Caucasus with Armenia, Colchis, Iberia, and Albania—regions that today correspond in part to Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. It is a scholarly map typical of the 19th century, designed to reconstruct the geography of the classical world through ancient names, regional boundaries, rivers, and cities, rather than for modern practical use. Its value lies in how it makes visible the complex historical stratification of the Caucasus, an area of contact between the Greco-Roman world, Persia, and local traditions.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on precious Amalfi paper.
It is a paper composed exclusively of cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with the characteristic deckled edges that testify to its artisanal craftsmanship.
