The "Map of Ancient Egypt, 1584" reproduces the work Aegyptus Antiqua engraved by Abraham Ortelius in Antwerp, within his famous atlas Theatrum Orbis Terrarum and the antiquarian supplement Parergon.
The map reconstructs Pharaonic Egypt following the course of the Nile from Ethiopia to the delta, populating its banks with cities and sites drawn from classical authors, including Herodotus, Strabo, Diodorus, and Pliny, explicitly cited in the legend. A separate box shows Alexandria and its hinterland in detail, while the grand architecture with pyramids and globes at the bottom celebrates the monumental Egyptian landscape more than geometric precision. It is an erudite Renaissance map, combining ancient philology, biblical interest, and late sixteenth-century decorative taste.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.
It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with the characteristic deckled edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.
It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
