The map shows the territory of Switzerland, with its mountains, lakes and rivers. It is a physical map that also indicates the main towns. In the upper right corner is a rectangular panel with inscriptions.
Abraham Ortelius (Latinised as Abrahamus Ortelius or Orthellius, from the Flemish Abraham Oertel, Ortels or Hortels) was a Flemish cartographer and geographer. Together with Mercator, Ortelius was the great founder of Flemish cartography and is remembered for publishing the first modern atlas.
