The map is a colorful school map that depicts France on the eve of World War I, at the beginning of the 20th century. It shows the division into departments, the prefectures, and the main cities, reflecting the administrative organization of the Third Republic. Created as a chromolithograph, it was intended for educational use in classrooms, where it served to teach political geography and national identity in a context marked by pre-war European tensions. The map thus offers a glimpse of France immediately preceding the 1914–1918 conflict, when the country was allied in the Triple Entente with Great Britain and Russia.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on precious Amalfi paper.
It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with the characteristic frayed edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.
It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.
