This map of Cornwall is one of John Speed's famous maps, published in 1627 in the atlas The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain by George Humble. It depicts the county with a strong geographical and celebratory intent: in addition to boundaries, towns, and the coastline, Speed includes prospective views, heraldic coats of arms, and decorative scenes that reflect the English cartographic taste of the early seventeenth century. The map is not only a topographic tool but also a political and cultural image of the territory, designed to enhance Cornwall's identity within the English kingdom. Its style combines descriptive precision and ornamental richness, typical of great Baroque cartography.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.
It is a paper composed exclusively of cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with the characteristic frayed edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.
It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.
