The map shows the city of Lille as it was laid out at the end of the 16th century. The square with the church can be seen roughly in the centre of the plan. The map shows the main monuments of Lille, while beyond the circuit of the walls are cultivated fields. In the upper corners are the coats of arms of Lille, while in the left-hand corner is a key.
Georg Braun also known as Brunus or Bruin, was a German cartographer.
