The map shows Bavaria as it was organised in the mid-16th century. It is a physical and political map: as well as indicating the states in different colours, it also shows rivers, woodland, mountain ranges and the largest towns. On the right-hand side is an imaginative drawing.
Philipp Bienewitz, better known as Philipp Apian, was a German cartographer.
