Historical map or chart of Ferdinand Magellan's circumnavigation of the globe, created by Battista Agnese in 1545.
The map depicts the world as a planisphere, showing the continents as they were known in the mid-16th century. Magellan's journey is traced with a black line. Outside the planisphere are winds blowing in all directions. Allegorical figures are represented in the corners of the map.
Battista Agnese (circa 1500 – 1564) was an Italian cartographer.
He was of Genoese origin but worked in Venice, where he was commissioned by princes, merchants, and high-ranking officials.
