Historical map of the world created by Guillaume Delisle in 1740.
The map shows the world as it was known in the mid-18th century. Meridians and parallels are shown.
In the corners outside the hemispheres the Earth's poles are depicted, while in the centre are allegories. The map was drawn up using the observations of the gentlemen of the Royal Academy of Sciences and some others. North America stands out, with borders not closely matching those of today.
Guillaume Delisle, was a French cartographer and geographer.
