Historical map of the world created by Charles Marie Rigobert Bonne in 1780.

The map represents the world as it was known at the end of the eighteenth century. It includes meridians and parallels. The map was created using Mercator projection, from Guillaume Raynal's "Atlas de Toutes les Parties Connues du Globe Terrestre".

Rigobert Bonne (1727-1794) was a French geographer, hydrographic engineer, and cartographer, born in Raucourt in the Ardennes, and a mathematics teacher in the 18th century.

Feel history at your fingertips

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic frayed edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.

It is still made today using ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.
