Historic double-hemisphere map of the world created by Nicolaes Visscher. It is a colored engraving.
The map depicts the two hemispheres with the outlines of the continents as they were known at the time.
In particular, it also includes the division into parallels and meridians.
In addition to the hemispheres, allegories with mythological figures are depicted.
Nicolaes or Nicolas or Claes Claesz. Visscher (Amsterdam, January 25, 1618 – Amsterdam, December 9, 1709) was a Dutch Golden Age draughtsman, engraver, publisher, illustrator, and printer.
Son of Claes Jansz Visscher and father of Nicolaes, he was active in his native city primarily as a publisher of atlases and maps from 1633 until 1679.
