This splendid map of the Kingdom of Sicily, created by Nicolaes Visscher I, represents an exceptional example of 17th-century Dutch cartography. It depicts Sicily, Malta, part of the Neapolitan coast, and sections of Sardinia with extraordinary geographical precision, using vibrant colors and embellished with gold leaf details. The still intense chromatic rendition testifies to the quality of the work and its excellent preservation.

The map is enriched by a large decorative cartouche containing two noble coats of arms, symbolizing the political and historical importance of the depicted area. At the bottom, a refined ornamental military scale adds artistic and functional value to the document. This is a rare period specimen, ideal for collectors, scholars, or enthusiasts of Mediterranean history and cartographic art.

Feel history under your fingertips

Our reproductions are extremely faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic deckled edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.

It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.
