Pietro Bertelli's "Map of the Ancient City of Verona," published in the celebrated "Theatrum Urbium Italicarum" in Venice in 1599, offers an evocative Renaissance view of one of Northern Italy's most captivating cities. The map meticulously depicts ancient Verona with its distinctive Roman arena, a symbol of a thousand-year history, alongside imposing fortified walls and main gates that still speak of its strategic and cultural importance. The Adige River, which flows through the city, is also carefully represented, enriching the scene with a natural element of great visual and historical impact.

The composition is embellished by two large decorative coats of arms that frame the map, lending artistic and symbolic value to the entire work. These details highlight Verona's importance in the historical and geographical context of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto, and also exalt Pietro Bertelli's artistic and cartographic skill.

Our reproductions are faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibers, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with characteristic frayed edges that attest to its artisanal craftsmanship.

It is still made today according to ancient medieval techniques in the workshops of Amalfi.
