The artwork

One of the distinctive features of the work is its masterly use of light and colour. Lorenzetti adopts a lively, harmonious palette, with shades of red, blue and gold that create an effect of luminosity and solemnity. The delicately modulated light gives volume and plasticity to the figures, detaching them from the gold background and giving them a tangible, realistic presence. This approach to light and colour reflects the influence of the Sienese school, known for its interest in minute detail and the decorative use of surfaces.
The central element of the work is the figure of the Virgin, who dominates the composition with a serene and monumental presence, enhanced by the finely crafted details of her mantle and of the throne, adorned with geometric and floral motifs.
