The artwork

The Madonna of the Siskin is an oil painting on poplar panel by Albrecht Dürer, signed and dated 1506, and held in the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin.

The work bears Dürer’s monogram and the inscription “Albertus Durer Germanus faciebat post Virginis partum 1506”, meaning made in the year of Our Lord 1506, on the slip of paper in the foreground.
