Feel history under your fingertips

Our reproductions are extremely faithful to the original and printed on fine Amalfi paper.

It is a paper made exclusively from cotton fibres, thick and naturally porous, yet soft to the touch, with the characteristic deckled edges that bear witness to its handcrafted making.

It is still made today using ancient medieval techniques, in the workshops of Amalfi.

The artwork

The Madonna of Humility by Masaccio depicts the Virgin seated on the ground with the Child, following an iconography that emphasises modesty and simplicity. Mary holds her Son with a natural, affectionate gesture, while the Child appears solid and realistic, far from Gothic idealisation.

The use of light and chiaroscuro gives volume and substance to the figures, bringing out their physicality. The sober composition and the attention to the mother-child relationship express the humanisation of the sacred typical of the early Renaissance, making the scene intimate and deeply human.
