The work
Raphael's "Madonna di Casa Santi", created between 1498 and 1500, is one of his earliest works, painted when the artist was still a teenager. Critics particularly appreciate the innocence and simplicity that shine through the faces of the Madonna and Child. Vasari highlights Raphael's precocious mastery in creating a balanced and harmonious composition, despite his young age. Longhi highlights the delicacy of color and the softness of lines, distinctive signs of the artist's future style. Berenson notes the influence of Perugino, Raphael's teacher, in the architectural details and use of perspective, but also the nascent originality that would characterize Raphael's mature works. Morelli praises the freshness and spontaneity of the painting, which heralds the extraordinary artistic evolution of the Urbino master. The "Madonna of Casa Santi" is therefore a precious example of Raphael's early experiments with form and composition.
