Original, luminous, 18th-century view of the Loggetta di San Marco with a perspective view of the Basilica, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the Loggetta, the entrance to the bell tower in Piazza San Marco, with its exquisite decorated arches. The loggetta is closed to tourists; there are a few passersbys in the small square in front. All around there are the buildings of Piazza San Marco, painted in perspective. The sky is a clear blue, with no clouds on the horizon.
The painting, an oil on canvas, is undated and is exhibited at The Barber Institute of Fine Arts in Birmingham.
