An original and romantic 18th-century engraving of a monument beneath a tree, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. Prominent is the great tree on the right of the picture, which seems almost to protect the small monument built at its foot. We are near the bank of a small river, in a rural setting, while the city is seen in the distance, with its domes and bell towers. The sky shows a few clouds on the horizon.
The engraving is undated. Other variants of this work by Canaletto exist.
