An original and rare 18th-century view of the Library of Venice, seen from the Piazzetta, painted by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground is the Piazzetta, full of people: citizens, dignitaries, visitors and a puppet show in progress. Further back rises the building housing the Library, with its rectangular plan and classical style, set over two floors. On the left is also the Column of San Todaro, as if watching over the whole square. The sky shows a few clouds on the horizon.
