Original 18th-century engraving of the bookshop in Piazza San Marco, by Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto. In the foreground there is the small square with the column of San Todaro, while the building used as a bookshop in the 18th century is depicted across the square. The small square features scenes of daily life, and further to the right the entrance to the bell tower of San Marco is depicted. The sky is partly cloudy.
The engraving is dated 1740. There are many other variations of this work by Canaletto. The engraving is exhibited at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, MN, USA.
